Dawoud Bey's American Project

Abstract
This article reviews the mid-career of photographer and College for Creative Studies (CCS) honorary doctorate Dawoud Bey mounted in 2021 at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City. The article reviews Bey's development as a street photographer in Harlem in the 1970s to the adoption of more formal portraiture techniques midcareer to his current, more metaphorical work.
